Grant application process
Eligibility
Any organisation or individual that operates within the area covered by the Lower Earn Trust is eligible to apply for a grant that meets any one or more of the Trust’s purposes (see Home page).
Organisations that may apply can be:

Scottish or UK registered charities

Un-registered organisations that have charitable purposes
-
Un-constituted but recognised and respected local organisations
Examples include:

Village Halls
-
Sports Clubs
-
Community Clubs & Groups
-
Youth Clubs & Groups
-
Schools
Exclusions
Organisations or persons should not be discouraged from applying for a grant. However, the Trustees will not support the following unless it can be demonstrated that it is of benefit to the Lower Earn community:

Prevention or relief of poverty
-
Advancement of religion
-
Saving of lives
-
Advancement of human rights, conflict resolution or reconciliation

Promotion of religious or racial harmony
-
Promotion of equality and diversity
-
Relief of those in need by reason of age, ill-health, disability, financial hardship or other disadvantage (including relief given by the provision of accommodation or care)

Advancement of animal welfare
-
General appeals for grants
-
Support for public events
-
Work undertaken by superior or umbrella organisations
-
Applications made on behalf of political organisations
-
Work normally undertaken by agencies, government, council, or educational organisations or faith-based organisations (except if it is directly connected to the support of a part of the community)

Feasibility studies, maybe supported, but the purpose must be clarified before the outset

Vehicles
-
Travel grants (unless directly connected with a part of the community)

Any ‘one-off’ event with no long-term benefit to the community
-
Work that has already taken place (ie. seeking retrospective funding)

Work which could be funded by the applicant
-
Applications made by unknown persons, or novel unestablished organisations
-
Applications from organisations or persons with a record of fraudulent behaviour
-
Applications which repeat, duplicate, augment, mimic or copy previous applications
-
Repeated re-application after refusal
-
Applications which may bring the LET into disrepute
Grant applications
Application dates
The Lower Earn Trust will consider applications on a quarterly basis. It undertakes to respond to initial queries rapidly with a view to determining a decision within a month of said quarterly application dates.
Applications will however be received at any time. Depending on the nature, extent and value of the application it may be considered immediately, or may await the next formal review date. Notably, this applies to Small Grant applications.
In all cases the relevant day is a Wednesday at 12:00 noon.

Q6. Have you stated the outcomes you seek to achieve if you secure this grant?

Q8. Have you stated the size of the grant that you wish to secure? This may be spread over three years.

Q9. Is the statement sufficiently robust to convince the LET Trustees that this application should be supported?

Q10. Ensure that the numbers of staff and beneficiaries are accurate and not over-inflated.

Q11. State where the activity that this grant would support will take place.

Q12. If you secure the grant, what will be the key indicator(s) that the outcome(s) has/have been a success?

LET grant award monitoring
Recipients of grants from the LET will be required to submit a LET Grant Award Monitoring Form to the Trustees on completion of their project to state that the aims and objectives of their original application have been met. The form is self-explanatory. You will be expected to have met the terms laid out in the Declaration.
